The Mudita Foundation is a registered section 21 company and has for the past six years been servicing school-going learners aged 14-19 who are most at risk of developing substance abuse disorders. Headed up by an Educational Psychologist, the main objective has been to keep at-risk learners within the school system for as long as possible and to treat any substance use disorders on an outpatient basis at a local school premises. We only use researched best practice to achieve our goals and, therefore, make use of the widely recognized Matrix Model®.
We have four programmes:
- An outpatient treatment programme
- An aftercare (relapse prevention) programme
- An early intervention programme
- A learning support programme
The services provided by the Mudita Foundation are free of charge to the learners of affiliated schools.
The outpatient treatment programme also includes conjoint session for siblings indirectly affected by substance abuse disorders.
Mudita realizes the need to support school staff members by providing education about substance use disorders (SUDs) and by equipping educators with skills in detection and referral.
